Extended Day Program
What Happens in Fessenden’s Extended Day Program?
Every afternoon EDP at our Massachusetts independent school starts with a snack and outdoor playtime (weather permitting) to release some energy from the long school day and take in the fresh air. Students then divide up into groups of their like grades for that day’s activities.
EDP teachers plan a monthly calendar of activities so that students know what to expect each day. One day a boy may choose an active sport outdoors and the next a project in the Ciongoli Center for Innovation.
As our teachers get to know students over the course of the year, they continue to plan more and more varied activities to appeal to students’ interests. Programming is structured to be flexible and to accommodate the boys’ various energy levels and passions. It’s no surprise that many boys tell us that EDP is a favorite part of their day!
Beyond the daily activities planned by our EDP teachers, students have opportunities over the course of the year to participate in specialized clubs taught by outside instructors for an additional fee. In the past, we have hosted coding, fencing, squash, chess, cooking, and more.

“One of the things that makes Fessenden’s EDP so remarkable is how flexible and accommodating the staff is. On more than one occasion, something has come up at the last minute, and all I had to do was send EDP a quick email and my son was taken care of for the afternoon.”

Extended Day Program Schedule & Fees
Families sign-up for the EDP schedule that works for them, which can be changed as needed during the school year. A yearly rate for the schedule the family has chosen is calculated based on the daily rates listed below. The annual fee is split into nine payments and families are billed in monthly installments from October through June.
Alternatively, families can also choose the “drop-in” option if their child will only participate in EDP occasionally, or if they prefer not to commit to a set schedule.
